Reasons To Make An Appointment With A Podiatrist

Posted on

When your feet hurt, it is hard to do just about everything. The idea of putting weight on them is sometimes too much to consider. A podiatrist specializes in problems with feet and can help you get your feet back in shape, so you are comfortable on them for more than a few minutes at a time.

Ingrown Nails

One thing that can make your toes sore is an infection as a result of an ingrown nail. Trimming the nails properly makes it easier for the nails to grow correctly. The toenails are very sensitive, and when they do not grow right, they can work their way under the skin. Once that happens, it can be challenging to change the way they are growing. Often it involves minor surgery and physical removal of the nail from the toe. In extreme cases, the nail bed is removed so that the nail does not grow back at all.

Joint Pain

It is pretty common to develop some level of pain in your feet and ankles as you grow older but if you are dealing with a lot of pain, you may want to consider talking to the podiatrist about it. Arthritis is common in your feet and ankles and can be treated with medication, and proper exercise. If it is another issue, the doctor can work with you to correct it.

Patients with Diabetes

Diabetes affects the body in so many ways. One of the most common is that it can reduce the blood flow to your extremities, cause nerve and tissue damage that can become very painful in your feet and legs. Often the podiatrist will want to see you yearly if you have diabetes so that they can monitor you and help deal with pain along the way. There is only one way to reduce the damage to your feet from diabetes. Keep your blood sugar under control, and that will help keep the circulation better in your feet and hands.

Athletes Foot and Other Fungus

Athletes foot is a fungus that grows on the feet. It liked warm dark places and the foot, inside shoes and covered in socks. If you have a fungus on your feet that you can not get rid of, talk to your podiatrist about it. They may want to prescribe a medicated cream that will help clear up your feet in a few days.
